Most family doctors are trained to treat acne and can prescribe meds stronger and better than OTC stuff. Proactive has the same active ingredients as Benzoyl Peroxide and is very effective in many acne cases, but costs about 10 times as much as OTC benzoyl peroxide. A doctor can prescribe Retin-A Microgel 0.1% or less. It is sort of a topical Accutane cream and it really works quite well. At first it will peel your skin and cause some redness, but later, your skin becomes much clearer. It is very expensive, BUT if you go to CanadaDrugs.com, you can get it for MUCH less and if you buy a 90 gram tube, you can save the postal fee. Some people have to take oral meds to get their acne under control, but try seeing a family doctor first or try benzoyl peroxide OTC. Do a google search for acne and go to the mayoclinic website. |
