Question: What cream is best for acne scars?
(Posted by: Felicia on 2010-03-21 19:05:33)
I've been looking up creams but i don't know what to choose. I've tried a lot of things but none have worked and I'm just looking for a way to get rid of these scars! They're dark scars left from previous acne. It would be great if it's a drugstore cream. Does scarzone or mederma work? PLEASE HELP!!!!! |

For most of the twentieth century, dermabrasion was the only way to get rid of acne scars. Wire brushes were rolled over the skin to strip off its outermost layer, just until the skin started to bleed. The theory was that when the new skin grew back, it would be free of age spots, blemishes, wrinkles, and scars. Sometimes the technique worked, and sometimes it didn’t. In the 1980’s dermatologists started using a kinder, gentler technique called microdermabrasion. In this technique, the technician uses a miniature “sandblaster” to blow a stream of abrasive crystals into the skin. The outer layers of skin cells are peeled off, and the skin grows back, usually, without scars. Laser dermabrasion and radio dermabrasion operate on the same principle. There is a list of some creams which uses the above technique at: acne-resource-center.com/ home-remedies-for-acne-scars |

Scars cannot be removed completely and traces will always be left on the skin. For scars to heal effectively, it is very important not to scratch or squeeze scabs, wounds or acne. There are several treatment options that can improve the appearance of a scar and make it less visible. Over-the-counter or prescription ointments, creams or gels are often used to treat scars. Sometimes corticosteroids or antihistamine creams are administered for scars that may cause itching. Scar plasters are sticking plasters that may help to reduce or soften the scar. In cases where scarring is a result of severe acne, your doctor or dermatologist may use pressure treatings or silicone gel sheetings to treat scars. For protruding scars such as keloids or hypertronic, steroid injections may be used. Collagen injections may also be helpful in treating pitted scars. Natural remedies More and more people are looking for natural and holistic ways to heal scars from acne, chicken pox, injury or surgery. While some topical creams and medical procedures such as dermabrasion and laser resurfacing may lessen the appearance of scarring, they are often very costly and harmful to the skin. Natural treatments such as herbal remedies are less invasive and gentle to use on the skin. Herbs such as Galium aperine (Cleavers) and Trifolium pratense (red clover) have a wide range of therapeutic benefits that act as a cleansing tonic, blood purifier and lymphatic cleanser. Homeopathic ingredients such as Natrium muriaticum, Kalium muriaticum and Kalium sulphate help to maintain skin health and support the regenerative processes of the skin. Oleum Lavandula is well-known for its soothing and healing properties and has been used for centuries to heal and prevent scarring. Symphytum has been traditionally used to promote healing and cell regeneration; making it useful for treating scars and skin disorders.
